International Dairy Data Exchange Network (iDDEN) Continues Growth with New Clients

The International Dairy Data Exchange Network (iDDEN) proudly announces a significant milestone in its journey of fostering innovation and collaboration within the dairy industry. With great excitement, iDDEN welcomes new partners in the continued expansion of its network. After an establishment phase, iDDEN is rolling out data exchange services with a number of partners. These industry leaders DeLaval, GEA, and Lely have entered strategic partner agreements with iDDEN and sensor companies like Afimilk, smaXTec and CowManager are key customers.

In addition to our technical partners, iDDEN is also expanding its services to national Dairy Data Organisations (DDO). The seven shareholder DDOs represent already 35 Dairy herd improvement Organizations with about 20 million dairy cows in their databases. Recently Synergy (Italy) has committed to use the iDDEN data exchange services with other partners for Italian farms. As well, Qualitas (Switzerland) has become an iDDEN customer to take advantage of efficient data exchange with the leading dairy equipment companies.

"We are thrilled to welcome all these partners to the iDDEN family", remarked Reinhard Reents, Managing Director at iDDEN. "Their addition underscores our dedication to seamlessly integrating on-farm dairy equipment, devices, and software with national dairy information systems and databases. Together with our existing clients, we are poised to drive transformative change and propel the industry towards faster, easier, and more cost-effective data exchange."

Our partnership with industry giants such as DeLaval, GEA and Lely further solidifies iDDEN's position as a premier global platform for data exchange and collaboration within the dairy sector. “At iDDEN, we recognize the power of partnerships in driving positive change and innovation,” added Reents. “The collective expertise and resources of our clients propel us towards our shared vision of simplified data flow and improved data-driven decision-making.”

As iDDEN embarks on this exciting chapter of growth and expansion, it reaffirms its commitment to driving excellence, fostering collaboration, and empowering dairy stakeholders worldwide.

iDDEN and Lely join forces in data exchange

The International Dairy Data Exchange Network (iDDEN) and Lely are joining forces to streamline data exchange. Dr. Reinhard Reents, Managing Director of iDDEN, today announced that the companies have entered a strategic partnership.

“Lely has long been at the forefront of innovations for dairy farming and clearly recognizes that there is an untapped potential in data”, Reents said. “Using iDDEN’s Data Exchange Hub will enable Lely, their customers and industry partners to benefit from faster, easier, and more cost-effective data exchange”.

iDDEN delivers data exchange services that seamlessly integrate on-farm dairy equipment, devices, and software with national dairy information systems and databases. “iDDEN’s Data Exchange Hub enables Lely to efficiently move authorized data between their milking robots, sensors and cow monitoring systems and other users of the data such as dairy data organisations”, Reents said.

Frido Hamoen, Lely’s Senior Product Manager Management Systems & Data, said: “The modern dairy farm generates an enormous amount of data and when industry partners join hands to connect farmers data, based on the consent given by the farmers, they can make life easier for all farmers”.

Leon Ham, Product Manager Data with Lely, said: “With this partnership, we can harvest the potential in data by combining and synchronizing data from separate sources to make information even more valuable. Ultimately the goal is to link all data available on milking, feeding, and breeding. This allows farmers to make the right decisions and work even more sustainably and efficiently”.

DeLaval Group making data-exchange easier for farmers

Stockholm, Sweden, 22 March 2023 – DeLaval Group is improving data handling for farmers by partnering with iDDEN (International Dairy Data Exchange).

DeLaval, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of milking equipment, and its affiliates UNIFORM-Agri, an internationally specialized provider of herd management software, and Dairy Data Warehouse, the world’s largest dairy data company, have signed a strategic partnership agreement with iDDEN.

“In almost all countries, farmers are required by law to report their farm data, and sometimes even in multiple systems. That is complicated and time consuming, so through this collaboration we can offer a fast and safe system that will simplify the exchange of data for our customers. They will be able to easily exchange data to and from the DeLaval systems on their farms to local animal track-and-trace organisations and the local milk recording organisations,” says Lars Bergmann, EVP Digital Services at DeLaval.

iDDEN is the largest international dairy data partnership, bringing together farmer-owned organisations and national databases across thirteen countries representing approximately 200,000 dairy herds, 20 million dairy cows and 13 million milk recorded dairy cows.

“The dairy industry is becoming increasingly digitalised, and most equipment is, or will be, connected. It is therefore important to have a solid system that offers a harmonised data exchange based on the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) animal data exchange standard, to the benefit of farmers around the world,” says Dr Reinhard Reents, Managing Director of iDDEN GmbH.

For DeLaval, it is important to make the data handling easy for the customer. “At DeLaval, we strongly believe in harmonisation and standardisation, and by working together with iDDEN we can deliver that and avoid costly fragmentation with many regional players who all use different techniques and sub-standards,” says Bergmann.

Efficient dairy data exchange the focus of a new international network

The largest international dairy data partnership, bringing together milk recording organizations and national databases across thirteen countries representing approximately 200,000 dairy herds, 20 million dairy cows in total and 13 million milk recorded dairy cows, was launched in November 2020. The International Dairy Data Exchange (iDDEN) is aimed at streamlining data exchange between dairy herds, milk recording organizations and dairy equipment manufacturers as well as other dairy related organizations.

iDDEN was established to operate as a non-profit organization by seven groups providing dairy data services in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands and the United States.

Managing Director of iDDEN, Reinhard Reents of vit (Germany), is enthusiastic about the opportunities iDDEN brings to simplifying data flow and enabling improved data-driven decision-making.

“iDDEN will deliver data exchange services that seamlessly integrate on-farm dairy equipment and devices plus software with national dairy information systems and databases. iDDEN is founded on strong principles of data governance and autonomy and consent for data sharing.”

Reents said two-way flow of data between farm management software and milk recording organisation databases is key, particularly as the volume of data available on-farm increases and systems move to cloud-based solutions.

“This will provide industry databases with access to a range of data currently not captured. iDDEN has the potential to reduce the costs of data integration by having one solution to connect multiple individual on-farm systems and dairy equipment data sources.”

iDDEN purchased the Nordic Cattle Data eXchange (NCDX) platform and is investing to enhance the functionality of the software including integration with cloud-based systems. iDDEN will integrate the International Committee for Animal Recording Animal Data Exchange (ICAR ADE) guidelines and standards where possible.

Neil Petreny, Chief Executive Officer at Lactanet Canada, said the launch of iDDEN is a great example of international industry collaboration between milk recording organizations and equipment and software organizations.

Petreny said the establishment and operation of iDDEN provides an exciting platform for future innovation, technology and service development. “iDDEN has brought together dairy industry organizations and major equipment manufacturers across Europe, North America and Australia to focus on solving data integration challenges”.

“Ultimately iDDEN is about supporting data exchange for data-driven decisions and innovative industry services that benefit dairy herd managers and their industry organisations.”

iDDEN is headquartered in Germany and the seven founding organizations are:

  • CRV (Netherlands)

  • DataGene (Australia)

  • Lactanet  (Canada)

  • National Dairy Herd Information Association (USA)

  • NCDX (Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden)

  • RDV (Austria & Germany)

  • Vit (Germany)
